Amy Hemkendreis is a highly skilled physical therapist with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Illinois Chicago, complemented by specialized post-doctoral training through a Fellowship in Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy Practice, Research, and Education at Northwestern University. Amy also holds board certification as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and is recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.

In academia, Amy serves as an adjunct faculty member at Lewis University, where she teaches both in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program—covering areas such as musculoskeletal care, primary care in physical therapy, and community health—and in the undergraduate exercise science program, focusing on the development and analysis of human movement.

Her clinical expertise spans orthopedics, vestibular and concussion management, sports injuries, spinal disorders, headaches, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. Amy’s practice incorporates the Maitland approach, a methodical, patient-centered philosophy of manual therapy that emphasizes continuous assessment to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Amy’s care philosophy revolves around collaboration, actively engaging with patients to co-create individualized treatment plans tailored to their goals. She understands the profound importance of helping patients return to the activities they value most, deriving great fulfillment from restoring her patients’ ability to fully participate in the things that bring them joy and meaning.
